“I want to write music that makes people feel,” says Ottawa-born, Toronto-based singer-songwriter, Rekha Patel. Her acoustic brand of folk pop is bound to do just that. With an admitted “heart on her sleeve,” she doesn’t hold back when it comes to songwriting. There is no doubt that her lyrics come from a very honest place, exploring, for the most part, her own experiences with love and relationships. When asked about her influences, it comes as no great surprise that Patel’s list consists of some of the most dominant female singer-songwriters of our time, including Jewel, Sarah McLachlan, Patty Griffin, Sara Bareilles, Sheryl Crow, and Feist.

Her debut EP The Heart Line was released in October 2011, and re-released on iTunes with an added bonus track in July 2013. The love ballad “The Sweetest Sound” was a featured track on an episode of the Hallmark TV series Cedar Cove later that year.

While Patel does hope to get back into the studio and on stage (solo) again in the not too distant future, her energies are currently focused on her harmony-driven folk duo project “Bluebelle” (check them out: bluebellemusic.com), and playing bass!
